Memorial Weekend in Carlsbad

We just got home from spending the weekend at the beach house in Carlsbad. Even though the weather was a little overcast, we had such a fun time! It was definitely a different trip now that we have 3 kiddos, but we made it work and luckily we have such an amazing & supportive family who helped us all weekend.

Every morning we would go for a walk down to get a coffee and Saturday morning Jayden heard the train…so we walked over to the station to see them. Unfortunately we missed the train, but decided to go back the next morning…little did we know we would need to go back every morning. We would go see one train, go grab a coffee, then go back to see the next train! Even though the trains were loud and Jayden wasn't a fan of the noise, she LOVED watching them! She loved them so much she's still talking about them!

Every time the train would come by she would cover her ears!

Even before the trains would come by, she would see the red lights flashing, and up would go her ear muffs!

After our walks, we would head down to the beach! Jayden is finally OK with playing in the sand…for the longest time she hated walking on the sand or getting it on her hands!

This trip, she loved digging holes, building sand castles and looking for sand crabs!

Jayden & Ella looked ADORABLE in their wet suits!

I love how much they love each other <3

Even though the wet suit is for a 2 year old, I think Jayden & Ella will fit in them for a while!
The suits came down to the their shins…so they would walk around like penguins!
It was hilarious!

Lathering up the sunscreen!

Kisses xoxo

After playing in the sand and at the beach all day, the girls would follow each other around and copy each other!

Such cuties!

Meanwhile…mommy & daddy got tons of cuddle time with Sophia & Savannah

Talk about bed hogs! :)

I just want to give them kisses all over! <3

I never get tired of looking at those cute faces!

One of my favorite things about this weekend, was every time we would turn around Al would be filming with his GoPro camera. On the beach, on the walks, at the train station…literally, everywhere we went he was filming. Turns out, we have a professional camera man and editing pro in the family! He put together such an awesome video from the weekend! I've probably watched it 5x because it's so good and the girls are ADORABLE in the video!

We had such a fun time and we can't wait for our next weekend getaway for 4th of July! :)

Two Months

Today the girls are two months and it's unbelievable how quickly time is flying by! We went to the doctor this morning for their check up and they, once again, surprised us with how well they're doing!

Sophia:
Birthday:
5 lbs 13 oz
17 3/4 inches

1 Month:
7 lbs 13 oz
20 3/4 inches

2 Months:
10 lbs 1 oz
21 1/2 inches

Savannah:
Birthday:
6 lbs 5 oz
18 inches

1 Month:
8 lbs 5 oz
21 1/2 inches

2 Months:
10 lbs 6 oz
22 inches

I can't believe how fast they are growing! The doctor said they are around the 50th percentile for their adjusted age and they are completely proportional :) In other words, they are perfect!
They are growing so fast they are already out of newborn diapers and out of newborn clothes! Before the girls were born I washed ALL of the newborn clothes and organized them in the dresser…too bad they didn't even come close to wearing half of the clothes! I try to keep it as simple and easy as possible, so half the time I keep them in jammies all day :) I only really get them dressed up if it's a holiday or special outing! Plus the more I change them, the more laundry I have…so I keep them in an outfit as long as possible! It usually doesn't last longer than 24 hours since they tend to spit up just enough to need a new outfit some point during the day. And our laundry…no joke I could easily do a load for the girls every single day! I try to go two or three days to space it out, but it's constant laundry! Once they are out of the newborn/spit up/blow out stage, hopefully the laundry calms down a little.

The girls are definitely starting to stay awake for longer stretches AND they are sleeping longer at night!!! The past few nights the girls have gone almost 7 hours between feedings! It's been AMAZING! I can't believe how great I feel during the day…even though I still get interrupted sleep, I'm feeling pretty good! Also, yesterday was my last check up with my OBGYN ~ I'm officially cleared to start working out again…so Jonathan and I are going to (try and) start working out every week together. I feel like I lost a ton of muscle since I wasn't allowed to work out while I was pregnant, so it will probably take me a while to build up my endurance and strength.

It's funny how at only 2 months Sophia and Savannah's little personalities are already shining through! Sophia is going to be like Jayden…a little firecracker full of energy and I can tell she will definitely keep us on our toes! Our little Savannah is our mellow babe ~ she just goes with the flow and likes to observe everything around her. Yesterday when we were out for a walk, she just sat there with her eyes wide open taking it all in…and I think she smiled at me for the first time! Don't get me wrong, both girls smile in their sleep all the time, but this was a smile right at me! And I LOVED it! I was just strolling along talking to her and she gave me the most beautiful bright smile! The people around me probably thought I was a crazy mama because I immediately went crazy talking to her ~ there's nothing like seeing your baby girl smile at you for the first time :)

Savannah our little sleepy head and Sophia not wanting to miss a thing!

Cuddle time with mommy & daddy <3

Last weekend was the first morning we had a FULL bed in the morning! All 5 of us lounged in bed and it was AWESOME! It's going to be so much fun when our girls are older and come walking into our room in the morning for cuddle time!

Awww I love being a mommy ~ there's nothing like it in the world <3

Mom! She's on my side of the pillow!

Double Trouble!

Happy 2 Months Sophia & Savannah!!
We love you to pieces!!
XOXOXOXO

A Sad Goodbye

Over 4 years ago Jonathan and I decided we were ready to start a family…and as time went on and we weren't getting pregnant, my little sis suggested we get a puppy as a good distraction and keep us from stressing about getting prego. So we did!
Not only did we get a puppy, but we rescued our sweet pup from going to the pound in Arkansas. I went out to visit Lexi and her kids and I brought home the cutest 13 pound black lab mix I named Maverick :)

Lexi was right, he was the PERFECT distraction and kept us so entertained! We instantly fell in love with this little guy and we totally treated him like our little baby!

And he went everywhere with us!

And he was the BEST cuddler ~ Jonathan and I loved laying on the sofa and napping with our little guy :)

When we finally found out we were pregnant with Jayden, we were so beyond thrilled! I loved Mav so much, he had helped us (especially me) through such a hard time and I was so excited we were growing our cute little family!

Since I was super sick during my pregnancy, I was constantly in the bathroom and little Mav would follow me in there and lay his head on my lap waiting for my nausea to pass every time. He was the best companion and was so incredibly loving and sweet…but soon after my sickness hit, he became protective and we noticed he started barking at more and more people. Before we knew it he was growling and our sweet pup was more of a protective guard dog.

Even though he was becoming more protective, he was still the most loyal dog in the world. Before we moved to our house, we had a town home and he would hop up on our patio table and watch for us to pull up in our parking spot.

And when he would hear my car or Jonathan's car from down the street…he would sprint to the back door and wait for us to come in and play!

If I opened the door, he would run out and look over the back fence and wait for Jonathan to pull up. He would go CRAZY waiting! He couldn't wait to play!!

I was doing tons of research on how to calm him down…and I came across an article that suggested we get him neutered, so we were off to the vet!!

When that didn't help (I actually thought for a while it made him worse)…I contemplated giving him up and sending him to the pound. That's when Jonathan's parents offered to take him since we were getting ready to have Jayden in just a few short months.

Our time with him grew few and far between, but occasionally he would come over for a weekend to spend time with us.

And when we had Jayden, he was so good with her…as if he instantly knew she was part of the family.

Unfortunately his love for us couldn't keep him from nibbling on a few of Scott & Pam's friends…so they had to give him away to a new home.

Last week we found out that he wasn't doing well and he was getting worse, so that new family sent him to the pound :(
We decided to go see him one last time to say our goodbyes before he was put down.

It was incredibly sad saying goodbye. Our Maverick will forever have a special place in my heart as he helped get me through some of the hardest days of my life.
RIP Maverick <3
We will miss you!
